Dear Colleagues:

Please disseminate the following announcements from our partner universities and on the available Internship and International Summer Programs for 2018.

1. 2018 UBC Vancouver Summer Program
The 2018 University of British Columbia (UBC) Vancouver Summer Program (VSP) is a 4-week academic program that provides the opportunity for students to take 2 academic courses in various UBC Faculties, while being exposed to Canadian practices and culture.

This year, the VSP will run in two different sessions:
Program dates: 3 June to 3 July 2018
Cost: $5100 Canadian dollars (two courses, course materials, medical insurance, group airport transfer and city tour, shared accommodation, orientation and farewell events, and socio-cultural activities) Course Packages offered are in the areas of Applied Science, Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Arts, Business, Community and Regional Planning, Education, Forestry, Medicine, and Science

Program dates: 14 July to 14 August 2018
Cost: $5100 Canadian dollars (two courses, course materials, medical insurance, group airport transfer and city tour, shared accommodation, orientation and farewell events, and socio-cultural activities)
Course Packages offered are in the areas of Applied Science, Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Arts, Business, Community and Regional Planning, Dentistry, Education, Forestry, Kinesiology, Land and Food Systems, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Science

2. Waseda Summer Session 2018
Waseda Summer Session is a 4-week program for undergraduate students offered by Waseda University, Japan. Participants will choose 2 from 14 courses such as literature and art, business, culture, economics, history, politics and sociology in the context of Japan and Asia pacific, and can earn 4 credits. The classes are taught in English by experienced faculty members from Waseda and visiting professors from the top global universities. Japanese classes can be taken as an optional course.

Online Application: March 1 to April 1, 2018
Program dates: June 25 to July 19, 2018
Cost: 4 credits for 2 regular courses = JPY 490,000 (Approx. USD 4,300)
1 credit for 1 Japanese course (optional) = JPY 36,400 (Approx. USD 320)
includes housing fee, airport pickup service, domestic insurance, field trip to Nikko, and administration & miscellaneous charge

3. 2018 Summer in Japan (SIJ)
Summer in Japan is 4 weeks intensive study abroad program for Japanese language and cultures offered by Kyushu University, Japan. It designed for undergraduate-level students in all academic field from all over the world. Using English as the primary medium of instruction, SIJ aims to introduce, in an intensive and effective manner, those with entry-level knowledge about Japan to its contemporary society and culture through offering traditional in-class academic coursework and a variety of off-campus activities for experiential learning.

The program provides: 1) Introduction to Contemporary Japan (course for credit), 2) Japanese Language (course for credit), 3) Field study for cross-cultural experience, 4) Homestay in local community, and 5) One-on-one tutor

Program dates: June 25 to July 20, 2018
Cost: 170,000 JPY (Approx. USD 1,600) (tuition, accommodation, activity fees, and administrative fees)
Application deadline: 5:00 pm, 28 February 2018 (JST)

4. 2018 APU Summer Gateway Program
The Gateway Program offers intensive Japanese language courses from beginner to intermediate level. Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University(APU)’s multicultural environment, provides a friendly and safe environment for students who do not have any background in Japanese. You will not only expand your knowledge of Japanese and Asia Pacific cultures, but also deepen your intercultural understanding and cross-cultural communication skills by studying alongside students from over 80 countries and regions. Participants will receive certificate of completion and transcript at the end of the program.

Program dates: May 31 - July 27, 2018
Cost: 527,000 JPY (Approx. USD 4,900) (screening fees, registration fees, program fees, housing fees, and bank transfer fees)
Application deadline: 2 March 2018

5. Hokkaido Summer Institute 2018
Hokkaido Summer Institute (HSI) offered by Hokkaido University (HU), is a program that brings together leading researchers with proven educational and research track records from around the world, and provides courses in collaboration with HU faculty members. Program participants have an opportunity to attend classes that employ attractive educational techniques, such as field training in Hokkaido’s extensive land resources and active learning activities, so they can develop into professionals capable of thriving on the world stage. All instruction at HSI is in English. Off-campus events and field trips are also planned so participants can enjoy Hokkaido’s beautiful summer. Courses are available for graduates and undergraduates.

Program dates: 4 June to 12 September 2018
Tuition Fee: 14,800 JPY (Approx. USD 140) per credit
Online Application: 1 to 28 February 2018

6. Keio Summer Program 2018
Keio University welcomes students from around the world to its new quarter-long Summer Program for academic and cultural learning opportunities in Japan—live in Tokyo, study alongside Keio students, and experience all that Japan has to offer this summer! Keio Summer Program is a two-month program (June – July) to study and experience life in Japan, suitable for undergraduate students.

Program dates: 4 June to end of July 2018
Cost: 255,500 JPY (Approx. USD 2,400) (Accommodation not included)
Online application deadline: 1-19 February 2018

7. International Summer Session(ISS)
The International Summer Session (ISS) at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), provides a unique opportunity to all those who want to deepen their understanding of Korean and East Asian societies and the sources of their current trends. International students may increase their Korean language proficiency through ISS language classes, and domestic Korean students have the opportunity to enhance their English language proficiency by studying in an international environment where all courses are taught in English. The summer session is open to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students, as well as to independent scholars interested in the field of Korean and Asian Studies.

Program dates: 19 July to 17 August 2018
Fees: USD 1,050~2,950 (Application and tuition fees), USD 320~500 (Dormitory), USD 300 (Field trips)
