In 2009, the UP Open University hosted the creation and exhibit of Biomodd (LBA2), “an art project that integrates cross-cultural dialogue, ecology and technology while encouraging innovative collaboration. The final result was a monumental wood and glass ‘sculpture’ that contained a system of recycled computers intertwined with an aquaponics system, and a multiplayer art game enabling visitors to directly interact with the piece” (biomodd.net). Biomodd also had versions in the United States, Slovenia, New Zealand, Belgium, and the Netherlands. This project was led by Dr. Angelo Vermeulen, UPOU Visiting Professor, and coordinated by Assistant Professor Diego Maranan, former Program Chair of the Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies.
