Associate in Arts
The Associate in Arts (AA) program is a 60-unit liberal arts program at the undergraduate level. It qualifies individuals to pursue a Bachelor’s degree, whether in the sciences or the arts.
Objectives
The program aims to:
- Broaden the students’ intellectual and cultural horizons;
- Foster a commitment of nationalism balanced by a sense of internationalism;
- Cultivate a capacity for independent, critical, and creative thinking;
- Infuse a passion for learning with a high sense of moral and intellectual integrity;
- Develop self-motivated learners with independent learning skills that will enable them to successfully complete their undergraduate education via the distance mode; and
- Provide a generalist type of basic tertiary education that will also develop competencies in communication and computer use.

Admission Requirements
To be considered for admission, an applicant must:

Be a high school graduate or must have passed the Philippine
Educational Placement Test (PEPT) - Have passed the Undergraduate Assessment Test (UgAT)
The UgAt is designed to assess both the applicant’s scholastic aptitude and capability to undertake independent learning. Those who had previously passed the UP College Admission Test (UPCAT) need not take the UgAT. Also, applicants may or may not have earned college credits.
Curriculum
The minimum academic load per semester is three units; the maximum load is 12 units.
Credits for the required 60 units can be earned from the following courses. Students must take the required minimum number of units from each cluster of courses.

AA students must complete six units of courses offered in the National Service Training Program (NSTP). The courses offered in the NSTP are clustered in the following components: Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), and Literacy Training Service. (RA9163) NSTP may also be taken in any school/institution accessible to the student through cross registration, subject to UPOU approval. |
