Caring for the Special Child
Designed for parents and caregivers of children with special needs, this 12-week course is delivered through a mix of self-instructional print modules, audio-visual materials, and face-to-face sessions.
Objectives
The course seeks to enable participants to:
- Contrast normal development with the progress of children with special needs;
- Demonstrate ways of addressing the following needs of children with special needs: physical, cognitive, social and behavioral, and motor needs;
- Describe a multidisciplinary team approach to caring for special children;
- Develop a “caring plan” for their child’s development with members of a multidisciplinary team;
- Identify institutions that assist children with special needs specially those in the community; and
- Summarize national laws and policies relevant to children with special needs;
Admission Requirements
Participants must have at least a high school education, as well as a good command of written and spoken English.
