The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs conducted a forum for UPOU Part-Time Learning and Registration/Testing Center Coordinators on 21 February 2006 at the UPOU HQ in Los Banos, Laguna.
During the forum, Vice Chancellor Victoria Bautista announced the conversion of non-U.P based Learning Centers to Testing Centers, with the exception of Cagayan de Oro-Department of Education, Universidad de Santa Isabel in Naga City and Cagayan State University.
The Testing Centers will primarily serve as the site for proctoring examinations administered in subjects enrolled in by students. Other functions normally rendered by Learning Centers will be administered online by the UPOU Headquarters. Prof. Bautista added that the move to convert Learning Centers to Testing Centers is consistent with the thrust of UPOU to step up online teaching and learning.
The Learning Centers that will be converted to Testing Centers in June
are as follows: Catanduanes State College, Dep-Ed Misamis Occidental,
Urios College, Marinduque State College, Palawan State University, University
of Eastern Philippines, and the University of San Carlos. Students in
these catchment areas can now register, will receive their materials by
parcel post or online, will transmit
their requirements by mail, and obtain other services online.
Also held during the forum was the recognition of the services of Learning Coordinators who have dedicated more than five years of support/assistance to the university and its students from various parts of the country. The awardees were Dr. Mario Basalo of DECS-Cagayan de Oro City LC; Prof. Nenette Abrigo of the Universidad de Sta. Isabel LC; Prof. Leticia Tolentino of UP Baguio LC; Dr. Merle Alunan of UPTacloban LC; Dr. Leonor Obon of Eastern Samar State College TC; and Dr.Mindanilla Broto of the University of Eastern Philippines TC.
