DE seminars in Western Visayas

The UPOU Learning Center in UP Visayas Iloilo organized a series of free seminars on distance education in Western Visayas on 19 to 22 June 2007. Mrs. Imelda Valera, UPOU learning center coordinator, said that the seminar was aimed at informing the public about distance education, the UPOU and its programs offerings.

The seminars -- attended by teachers, government workers, health workers, and public servants -- were conducted in the following municipalities in Western Visayas: San Jose, Antique; Pandan, Antique; Silay City in Negros Occidental.

Ms. Valera, together with Ms. Luisa Gelisan, UPOU Information Officer, also met with public officials to explore the possibility of establishing scholarship programs for their constituents. They also guested in a local radio station in Iloilo to discuss online learning and distance education.(Luisa A. Gelisan, OC)
