UPOU students share their experiences as distance learners
Ms. Sharon Cuneta-Pangilinan, a student of the Associate in Arts program of the UPOU and a presenter for the 3rd National Conference in Open and Distance Learning, spoke of her experiences with the University. Despite her apprehensions and qualms about exams and professors, she decided to enroll in the University’s AA program as an initial step towards her dream of obtaining a college degree. Now that she is with UPOU, she enjoys her current subjects, particularly her humanities subject, as she has always had a love affair with reading and writing.
Fr Gerard Ravasco, a graduate of the Master of Development Communication program, said that the competitive edge of ODL is that it transcends national borders, social status, age and physical attributes, and time as limit to the experience of learning. He added that ODL has leveled the playing field in education. It has made learning more affordable and more available.
Alvin Gatbonton thanked the UPOU for the discipline that he learned while he was with the Associate in Arts program. He described the teaching style of UPOU faculty and tutors as learning by understanding and not rote or expository learning. (Paz H. Diaz, FMDS and Rhea Marie Carino, OVCAA)
