FMDS holds consultative meeting on development entrepreneurship
To get the perspectives of various stakeholders on a proposed postgraduate program on development entrepreneurship, the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) organized a consultative meeting on 29 May 2008 at the UP Open University Headquarters, Los Baños, Laguna. Twenty experts and practitioners from non-government organizations, cooperatives, development organizations, and government agencies participated in the meeting.
The meeting specifically aimed to present the status of development entrepreneurship as a field of study and area of practice; identify the competencies and the subject areas that must be addressed and covered by the proposed program; and suggest recommendations on the design and delivery of the program.
The following served as resource persons:
- Dindo Campilan, the Regional Leader for South, West and Central Asia of the International Potato Center (CIP). He delivered a paper titled “What Drives Entrepreneurship? Linking Theory Practice in the Business of Development;”
- Nerlita Manalili, the Regional Adviser for Asia (Market Access) of VREDESEILANDEN, she presented the paper “Evidence from the field: bridging the gaps between entrepreneurial needs and (enterprise training) offering;"
- Romulo Villamin, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Cooperative Excellence, who spoke on “Responding to the HRD needs and requirements of the Cooperative Sector;”
- Julius Adrian R. Alip the Operations Manager of the CARD Business Development Services. He presented “CARD MRI Enterprise Development Endeavors”; and
- Alice Opeña, the head of Policy, Planning, and Research Division of the Bureau of Small & Medium Enterprise Development, who discussed the “Programs and Services for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.”
FMDS Dean Ma. Fe V. Mendoza gave the welcome and closing remarks. Prof. Primo Garcia and Mr. Larry Cruz organized the event. (FMDS)
