Regent Librero keynotes UPLB-REPSA symposium
Dr. Felix Librero, the University of the Philippines Faculty Regent, was the keynote speaker at the UPLB REPSA Anniversary Symposium held on 25 September 2008 at the ACCI Auditorium, UP Los Baños, Laguna.
Regent Librero presented to the UPLB research, extension, and professional staff (REPS) members his concept paper that proposes to formulate career paths for the different groupings the REPS sector comprises. He clarified that his idea of a career path is "simply a suggestion and it ought to be subjected to further deliberations among REPS. I believe that you have to decide among yourselves...." He also suggested that in doing so, the REPS should "formulate a long term solution rather than merely a plaster to temporarily cover a gaping abnormality."
Dr. Librero believes that if the professional staff members "would know exactly the direction of their career…this would go a long way towards motivating people to perform excellently."
In the same symposium, the Faculty Regent also discussed his ongoing System-wide study of the upward mobility of UP faculty members. The results of the study will serve as the basis for formulating an appropriate policy framework for the reward and promotion systems of the UP Faculty members.
