FMDS offers Community Mental Health course
The Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) offers anew the course on Community Mental Health (CMH). The course will run from September to November 2009 and registration will be until 21 September 2009. It is open to community health workers, primary care nurses, social workers, and general medical practitioners.
Community Mental Health is a 12-week blended course where students will be participating in both face-to-face sessions and online tutorials. They will also receive course guides, hand outs, course readings, and other multimedia materials.
Dr. Dinah Nadera, a psychiatrist and the CMH course coordinator, said that the course will teach students the basic concepts of mental health as a public health issue and its impacts on community health care. The students will also receive basic skills training in identifying the common mental disorders and about early intervention measures. It shall help address the lack of mental health providers and increase mental health literacy in the country.
