Course guide writeshop for writers of UPOU programs

The Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services (OASIS), in coordination with the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies, conducted a Course Guide Writeshop for course writers of the Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies (BAMS) and other UPOU programs on 3-4 December 2009 at the AV Room of the UPOU Headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna. The resource persons for the writeshop were Vice Chancellor Nemah N. Hermosa and Prof. Patricia B. Arinto.

On the first day of the writeshop, Prof. Arinto shared extensive insights about teaching at a distance. She discussed the course guide as teaching tool in online distance education (DE) and shared the essential elements of the course guide. She also discussed effective online teaching like designing and organizing the online learning context, facilitating discourse and providing direct instruction. Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor Hermosa discussed course guide development in Resource Based Learning (RBL). She also shared some insights on analyzing the learners; defining learning outcomes; determining the modes of assessment; structuring course content; selecting resources for variety of formats; and designing learning activities using her course sites as illustrations.

On the second day, the participants presented the course guides they prepared for their respective courses.

The two-day writeshop is part of the series of workshops that OASIS designs for course writers in the 50 or more courses being developed at UPOU (Milette Orias, OASIS).
