Teacher Development Program Phase 2 Launched

To upgrade the teaching capabilities of public high school teachers in the First District of Quezon Province, Congressman Wilfrido Mark Enverga, Quezon Power (Philippines) Ltd, and the UP Open University established the Phase 2 of Teacher Development Program (TDP 2).
TDP 2 launching was held on 8 May 2009 at UPOU, Los Baños, during UPOU's Grand Sunduan for its students and alumni.
The Teacher Development Program 2 will provide scholarship grants to 45 public high school teachers from Dr. Maria D. Pastrana High School, Cagsiay 1 National High School, Cagbalete Island National High School and Liwayway National High School in Mauban; Manuel S. Enverga Memorial College of Arts and Trade in Lucena City; Sampaloc National High School in Sampaloc; Tongohin National HighSchool in Infanta; Ungos National High School in Real ; Pagbilao National High School in Pagbilao; Rosario Quesada Memorial National High School in Tayabas; and Paaralang Sekundarya ng Lucban in Lucban.
The teachers are now enrolled in the following graduate degree programs of UP Open University:
- Diploma in Science Teaching
- Diploma in Mathematics Teaching, and the
- Diploma in Language and Literacy Education
They will also undergo short training programs on pedagogy, computer literacy, and development of instructional materials and teaching aids. The first of the series of nonformal training program will be held on 26-29 May 2009 at the UPOU Headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna.
The first phase of TDP was launched in May 2005 with 41 public elementary school teachers from Mauban, Quezon as scholars. It was organized in cooperation with the Local Government Unit of Mauban. (Luisa A. Gelisan, OC).
