UPOU officials' meeting with Cong. Fuentebella

Officials of the UP Open University, led by Chancellor Grace J. Alfonso, met with Atty William B. Fuentebella, the Chief of Staff of Congressman Arnulfo P. Fuentebella to discuss UPOU's degree and nonformal program offerings and how the university conducts its courses through distance education. Congressman Fuentebella is the House Representative of the 3rd District of Camarines Sur and Deputy Speaker for Luzon.

The Chief of Staff, who is also a former representative from the same district, expressed interest to offer scholarship grants for the following programs: Master of Hospital Administration; Certificate in Barangay Administration; and Community eCenter. He also requested UPOU to design training courses for pre-school teachers and day care center workers. The Congressman's constituents in Camarines Sur can enroll in these short-term courses with funding from the same scholarship grant.

The meeting was held on 8 October 2009 at the House of Representatives Building Complex in Quezon City. Also in attendance were Dr. Nemah N. Hermosa, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Dr. Melinda dP. Bandalaria, University Registrar; Ms. Alvie Alip, UPOU Scholarships Coordinator; Ms. Yaselle Yambao, UPOU Learning- and Testing Center Coordinator; and faculty members from the Partido State University in Camarines Sur (Luisa A. Gelisan, OC).
