UPOU hosts Philippine eLearning Society's

The Philippine eLearning Society (PeLS) will hold its first monthly "Kapihan" or for 2009 at the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) headquarters in Los Banos, Laguna on 26 February 2009, 1:30 to 4:30 PM.

The , which will coincide with UPOU's 14th Foundation Day celebration, has adapted the university's anniversary theme "Building Global Learning Communities." To speak at the are Dr. Gunther Podlacha and Dr. Rufino Mananghaya.

Dr. Podlacha is the Division Head, E-Learning, International Knowledge Communities, Documentation of the InWENT Building International of Germany. He will discuss Capacity Building for E-Learning - A Contribution to E-inclusion in an Emerging Information and Knowledge Society. On the other hand, Dr. Mananghaya, former president of PeLS, will present his paper titled "Lifestyle in International Online Learning Community."

Dr. Maria Ana Quimbo, an officer of PeLS, said that their society has chosen to partner with UPOU for this because of the university's pioneering undertaking on elearning.

The Philippine eLearning Society is an association of elearning practitioners that aims to promote substantive content, appropriate pedagogy, and appropriate use of technology for eLearning that are guided by ongoing research activities. (Luisa A. Gelisan, OC)
