| Dr. Bandalaria explains to Professors from Afghanistan how distance education is being done by UPOU. |
A group of teachers/professors from various universities in Afghanistan visited the UP Open University headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna on 2 October 2009 to familiarize themselves with distance education and how it is being done.
Dr. Melinda F. Bandalaria, Associate Professor, Faculty of Information and Communication Studies and UPOU University Registrar conducted the briefing/orientation attended by 25 visitors from Afghanistan. The Afghanistan Professors were specifically interested on how student support services are extended to UPOU students located in 60 countries.
Prof. Bandalaria said that UPOU went through various generations of distance learning and student support services for its students. They range from combinations of print modules, multimedia materials with face-to-face sessions, to audio- and videoconferencing, and to online tutorials. She also shared that UPOU has put in place a system to ensure that its distance learners only receive quality education that UP - the Philippine's premier university - is known for (Luisa A. Gelisan, OC).
