DevCom students develop YouTube site on Global Warming

To inform various publics about Global Warming, a group of five students of the Master of Development Communication program developed a site in YouTube Channel titled “COOL 101: What you need to know about Global Warming.”

According to the students, “COOL 101 is a YouTube Channel that serves as an interactive repository of videos designed to increase people's awareness on Global Warming.” It is also aims to be a one-stop channel for sharing video clips documenting its viewers' and subscribers' personal insights on the issue.

COOL 101 explains what global warming is, its causes, effects, and how it could be mitigated. It's website address is http://www.youtube.com/user/upoucool101#p/a

Mr. Bryan Joseph G. Sabroso, one of the students who worked on the site, said that they chose YouTube as a channel because of its potential as a tool in social mobilization. Through YouTube, they can reach a wider audience at a very minimal cost.

Dr. Melinda Bandalaria, the Faculty-in-Charge of DevCom 208 ( Social Marketing and Mobilization course), said that COOL 101 is the group's term project for her class. She added that the members of the group are based in various parts of the world, but distance did not hinder the students to come up with a group project.

Sabroso is working with the United Nations Regional Commission for Asia-Pacific located in Bangkok. Other members of the group include: Gia Zarina Santos of UNICEF, New York ; Del Amor Reyes of Globe Telecoms Philippines; Elisabeth Lara Santos who works with a global I.T. company in Makati City, Philippines and Raphael Lobrin who is employed at an internet marketing company based in Iloilo City, Philippines. (Luisa A. Gelisan, OC).
