UPOU MDE student honored at the SDO-Rizal’s Gawad Kampilan again

Ann Michelle S. Medina, a UP Open University (UPOU) student of the Master of Distance Education (MDE) program, bagged the Outstanding High School Teacher Award in the DepEd Schools Division Office (SDO) of Rizal’s 2021 Gawad Kampilan held last 16 December 2021. Medina is a secondary school teacher and ICT coordinator from Tagumpay National High School (TNHS) located at Rodriguez, Rizal.

Gawad Kampilan is an annual program that recognizes the efforts and contributions of both teaching and non-teaching personnel that delivered commendable service to the organization amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the first time that the host presented the Outstanding High School Teacher Award.

Medina shares that the MDE program prepared her theoretically and technically. It helped her with curriculum planning and in designing professional development for teachers, and facilitating technology-supported learning. Her MDE background has guided her in developing their Learning Continuity Plan (LCP).

The open and distance e-learning in UPOU helps Medina finish her graduate degree that is a key for her career advancement. She also mentioned that the adjustment during the pandemic was easy for her as she is used to independent learning in UPOU.

In 2018, Medina was one of the finalists on the ICT Innovations Award for Governance category. While in 2017, she received the DepEd Rizal’s Gawad Kampilan Outstanding ICT Coordinator for Governance category and Regional Winner in DepEd CALABARZON’s 1st ICT Summit. In 2020, she was awarded at the 2020 SDO Rizal’s Gawad Kampilan as the Outstanding Innovator for the Secondary Teacher Category. Moreover, Medina was awarded as Outstanding Teacher at Tagumpay National High School (TNHS) from 2017-2020.

While in 2021, Medina received the following awards under TNHS ProsPER: Outstanding Teacher, Outstanding Program/Project Coordinator, Researcher of the year, ICT Team (Special Award), and Google Certified Educator (Special Award). She also received the 2021 Gawad Bayaning Montalbeño sa Edukasyon Distinguished Award and Outstanding Teacher Finalist.

Medina dedicates this award to all learners, parents, guardians, and teachers who bravely face the challenges of the pandemic.

The Faculty of Education congratulates Ms. Anne Michelle Medina for her achievement!
