With the approaching end of the terms of the Deans of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS) and Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS), UPOU has released a call for the search for the new deans of the Faculty Offices.

On 25 January 2019, Memorandum No. CMDPB 2019-05 was released for the “Search and Consultation Process and Call for Nomination for the next Dean of the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) and the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS).” Based on the guidelines attached to the memo, nomination can be done through submission of a nomination letter with the nominee’s conforme, a copy of the nominee’s complete curriculum vitae (CV) with a short summary of the CV, the nominee’s flagship projects, and summary of the nominee’s most significant qualifications and achievements. The deadline for nomination was on 8 February 2019.

Nominees must be a Filipino citizen, committed to academic freedom and values ideal to UPOU, must have distinction or outstanding academic credentials in the nominee’s field, must possess leadership qualities and administrative or managerial capabilities, willing to serve and must consider resource generation an important function of the position.

On 11 February 2019, Dr. Alexander G. Flor, Incumbent Dean of FICS and Dr. Primo G. Garcia, Incumbent Dean of FMDS, presented their end-of-term reports at the UPOU Oblation Hall and over networks.upou.edu.ph for employees, students and alumni based elsewhere. A public forum with the nominees, consultative meeting and interview with the Chancellor followed on 15 February and the endorsement of the Nominee to the President was submitted on 22 February.

The chosen nominees will serve for a term of three years with a 9-unit credit lead, and may serve for two terms. On exceptional cases, a third term will be allowed. (ACLlamas)

The Ugnayan ng Pahinungód UPOU, together with the UP Open University (UPOU) Office of Public Affairs (OPA) and in coordination with the Department of Education Region 10, conducted the UP Admission Orientation for various schools in Northern Mindanao from 24 to 26 April 2024. This initiative is part of the University's efforts to democratize access to UP education. The schools were oriented about the UP System, including its diverse range of courses and programs and additional information about UPOU.
