In an effort to cultivate a culture of health and well-being among its employees and show a genuine concern for the physical and mental welfare of its workforce in today’s society, the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU)  implemented a variety of wellness and healthy lifestyle activities. Through OC Memo CMDPB 2023-016, the Reconstituted UPOU Wellness and Healthy Lifestyle Committee was created to spearhead these activities.

UPOU Wellness and Healthy Lifestyle Committee was tasked to develop and execute programs and initiatives to enhance employees’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This is aimed to equip employees to navigate the challenges of academics and work, leading to a healthier, happier, and more productive community overall.

Some of its activities include supporting the “Hakbang Para sa Agham Fun Run” by the Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Inc. (LBSCFI). Other activities that were implemented were the Onsite Influenza Vaccination (FluVax), Zumba Sessions, Beginner-Friendly Yoga, and Walking Wednesdays. Other activities in the pipeline include health and wellness seminars and regular sports activities.

The UPOU Wellness and Healthy Lifestyle Committee holds a crucial role in establishing a comprehensive, supportive environment for both students and staff. The primary objective of these activities is to advocate for practices in awareness of emotional, and social well-being, as well as eco-friendly initiatives.
