The UPOU Alumni Association Inc. (UPOUAAI) is pleased to announce the adoption of the Lifetime Members of the UPOU Alumni Foundation Inc. (UPOUAFI) into the UPOU Alumni Association Inc.

A Brief Background

Between 2024 and 2025, a comprehensive review of the organizational status of the UPOU Alumni Foundation Inc. (UPOUAFI) was undertaken. This involved consultations with legal professionals and an assessment of the organization’s regulatory and operational requirements. Following these consultations, it was determined that UPOUAFI could no longer continue its operations.
In response to this development and to ensure that the University of the Philippines Open University continues to have a duly organized alumni association, the UPOU Alumni Association Inc. (UPOUAAI) was established in 2025 to serve the graduates of UPOU.
As a newly established corporation, UPOUAAI is a separate and distinct legal entity from UPOUAFI. Accordingly, UPOUAAI operates under its own Articles of Incorporation, Constitution and By-Laws, policies, governance structure, and membership framework. These were developed to establish a sustainable, transparent, and actively engaged alumni association that will continue to support the University of the Philippines Open University and future generations of UPOU alumni.
Because UPOUAAI is an independent corporation with its own legal personality and governing policies, it cannot automatically assume or transfer the memberships granted under UPOUAFI. Any recognition of former UPOUAFI Lifetime Members must therefore be undertaken in accordance with the policies duly adopted by the UPOUAAI Board of Trustees.

Adoption of UPOUAFI Lifetime Members

The UPOU Alumni Association Inc. recognizes the invaluable support and commitment demonstrated by the Lifetime Members of UPOUAFI throughout the years. Their contributions have played an important role in strengthening the UPOU alumni community, and we believe that this commitment deserves to be recognized and carried forward.
With this in mind, the Board of Trustees of UPOUAAI has approved the adoption of the Lifetime Members of UPOUAFI into the UPOU Alumni Association Inc.
Under this adoption program, qualified Lifetime Members of UPOUAFI will be granted five (5) years of membership in UPOUAAI at no additional membership fee. Upon the completion of the five-year period, members may choose to renew their membership under the prevailing membership policies of UPOUAAI, including the opportunity to apply for Lifetime Membership in accordance with the Association’s existing guidelines.
The five-year adoption period reflects UPOUAAI’s commitment to balancing continuity with sustainability. While we wish to honor the dedication and support extended by the Lifetime Members of UPOUAFI, we also recognize our responsibility to build an alumni association that is financially sustainable, actively engaged, and responsive to the evolving needs of the UPOU community.
Our vision is to cultivate an alumni association where membership goes beyond affiliation—it is an opportunity to participate, collaborate, and contribute to initiatives that benefit fellow alumni, current and future students, and the University of the Philippines Open University as a whole.

How to Avail of the Adoption Program

Since UPOUAAI is a separate legal entity, we require your consent to become a member under this adoption program. Accomplishing and submitting the form signifies your agreement to be recognized as an adopted member of UPOUAAI for a period of five (5) years under the Association’s existing policies.
Upon verification of your Lifetime Membership with UPOUAFI, you will officially become an adopted member of the UPOU Alumni Association Inc. and will receive your official UPOUAAI Membership ID.
