The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) joined the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on 9 June 2022, 9:00 am to assess the responsiveness of the existing disaster preparedness and contingency plans of the University. All faculty and staff practiced the “duck, cover, and hold” as the siren alarmed for 60 seconds. Safety marshals led the safe flow of evacuation to the respective assembly areas, while safety wardens communicated the safety status of the faculty and staff from their respective offices. To capacitate the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) personnel on the use of Zoom, the UP Open University Multimedia Center (MC) conducted a face-to-face training on 17-18 May at the CVM Communal Building, UPLB, College, Laguna. A total of 28 personnel participated in the training program. Nineteen participants were trained under the “Using Zoom via Computers” track and nine participants for “Using Zoom Via Mobile Devices” track. In celebration of the Philippine Heritage Month 2022, the Ifugao State University (IFSU) in collaboration with the UP Open University (UPOU), and the Hungduan Municipality launched an exhibit and cultural showcase of indigenous houses, stories, and cuisines at the IFSU Hapao Campus on 26 May 2022. The exhibit, with the theme “Pangipaptok hi Nunhituwan: The Built Heritage of Hungduan,” featured five cultural showcases. It highlighted the Ifugao native house as the symbol of Ifugao culture, which may serve as a springboard for discussion of cultural narratives, thereby facilitating collaborations for the conservation and preservation of the Ifugao Rice Terraces landscape. The Ugnayan ng Pahinungod University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) hosted a webinar titled “Mag-isaisip: Conversations on Mindfulness” on 16 May 2022.  The webinar is the fifth and last in the Lusog-Isip series organized by the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod Committee on Psychosocial Emergency Services (CoPES). In the third episode of the Revitalizing Socioecological Production Landscapes And Seascapes (SEPLS) webinar series, Ms. Kien Dang, MSc of the Social Policy Ecology Research Institute (SPERI) discussed examples in Vietnam about groundworks in the restoration of its local native seeds, seedlings, and trees.SEPLS. The webinar was held on 24 May 2022.  Ms. Dang shared the different challenges of native landscape restorations such as poverty-driven agriculture that caused forest destruction and soil erosion due to skinned landscapes.
