UPOU and UBDE Inks MOU for Joint Research and Academic Activities

The University of Batangas Distance Education (UBDE) and the UP Open University (UPOU) were engaged in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 11 September 2023 at the University of Batangas, Kumintang Ibaba, Batangas City. The activity highlighted the partnership between two organizations, as well as the launch of the UBDE Distance Learners Application (DLA).

The activity was attended by Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, UPOU Chancellor, and Ms. Margaret Jarmin-Suarez, Program Development Associate for Institutional Linkages from UPOU. From UBDE, the attendees were Mrs. Lily Marlene J. Hernandez, UBDE President; Dr. Abegayle Machelle M. Perez-Chua, Vice President for External Affairs; Dr. Aurora Rosalie Pargas – Tolentino, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Lolita F. Tegon, Asst. Vice President for Academic Affairs; Atty. Jesus V. Mayo, Chairman of the Board of Regents; Mr. Carl Ivan B. Villanueva, UBDE Director; Mr. Charles Leoj L. Roxas, UBDE Learner, and Faculty Support Head; and Ms. Daisy A. Ilagan, Academic Programs Head.

The agreement includes joint academic activities for research and training, exchange programs for academic staff and students, the establishment of dual or joint degree programs, consultancy and other technical services on QA, learning materials development, student and faculty support, open educational resources, among others; resource and information sharing and other activities, mutually agreed by both institutions.

This activity is part of UPOU’s initiative to explore cooperation and linkages with local and international institutions in student and faculty exchange, joint research, network participation, sharing of educational resources, and other international academic and research activities.

The 7th AAWS Congress concluded with a closing ceremony. Dr. Sylvia Estrada Claudio, AAWS Council Member, wrapped up the event with a thoughtfully articulated synthesis highlighting the key insights and important points, reflections and challenges from the sessions.An awarding ceremony was also held to recognize outstanding contributions presented during the congress, and named the Best Exhibit, Best Poster, and Best Paper. The Best Community Fair Showcase was awarded to LATCH Los Baños.The Best Poster was given to Loise Anne C. Aquino, Destiny SM. Lutero, Vannessa E. San Juan, Francesca Isabel N. De Vera, Rea Divina C. Mero, and Ellaine Rose A. Beronio for the study entitled "Assessing Gender Mainstreaming at UPLB: The Case of the Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics (IMSP);” The Best Paper (First Place) was given to Irish Joy G. Deocampo and Maritess D. Cruz with the study entitled “You Should Always Be Safe Here: Applying Feminist Care in Reimagining 2 Communication Against Gender-Based Violence in Higher Education;”The Best Paper (2nd Place) to Alice C. Prieto-Carolino with the study entitled “Filipino Women Polychaete Fishers’ Lives from the Lens of Feminist Political Ecology;”The Best Paper (3rd Place) was given to Renalyn C. Figueroa for the study entitled “From Womb To Tomb: The Intersectionality of Women in Jessica Hagedorn’s ‘Dogeaters;”And Best Paper Finalist to Princess Sheryn A. Mamucao for her study “Bangsamoro Women’s Roles in Conflict Resolution in the Bangsamoro Region (BARMM).”Asst. Prof. Maria Lourdes Jarabe, Director of the UPOU Office of Gender Concerns, delivered the closing remarks, emphasizing the conference as a testament to the community’s commitment to advancing gender studies.
