Dr. Maria Dalisay G. Maligalig and Dr. Jomar F. Rabajante, affiliate faculty members of the Faculty of Education (FEd), University of the Philippines Open University were named as the new Program Chairs of Diploma in Science Teaching (DST) and Diploma in Mathematics Teaching (DMT), respectively. DST and DMT were two of FEd’s post-baccalaureate diploma programs. Dr. Maligalig has been appointed as the new Diploma in Science Teaching (DST) Program Chair effective 1 August 2019. Dr. Ancheta-Diego has a Doctor of Education (Educational Management) and Master of Public Administration degree from Mariano Marcos State University. The Ugnayan ng Pahinungód University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) conducted its first teacher training program on 28 October 2019 at the Centennial Center for Digital Learning (CCDL) Auditorium, UPOU Headquarters, Los Baños, Laguna. Focusing on the subject matter Reading Remediation for the Early Grades (Kinder to Grade 3), 42 Kinder to Grade 3 public school teachers from Bay and Los Baños, Laguna participated in the programs. To raise awareness on and to help build a resilient community, the Ugnayan ng Pahinungód University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) spearheaded an orientation seminar on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM). The seminar held on 27 October 2019 was participated in by 38 residents and local officials of Brgy. Tagumpay, Bay, Laguna. Shrouded in the mists of antiquity and rich culture, the anciently beautiful city of Lahore, Pakistan was the venue of the recently concluded 33rd Annual Conference of the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) on 14-16 October 2019. Hosted by the Virtual University of Pakistan (VUP), the three-day conference served as an international platform for the critical exchange of knowledge and expertise among open and distance (ODL) practitioners which was attended by 600 participants from 13 countries from around Asia and the world.
