UP BOR Approves DSus

Sustainability has become a critical global issue, and tackling complex sustainability issues has made it necessary to use interdisciplinary approaches and creative solutions. In line with this, the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) is delighted to introduce its latest doctoral program, the Doctor in Sustainability (DSus). The DSus program is designed for individuals who are passionate about expanding their systematic knowledge and practice through interdisciplinary research and scholarship. It focuses on cutting-edge research, critical thinking, and practical application to address sustainability challenges facing communities, industries, and societies.

The DSus program is unique and enables students to examine complex sustainability issues and apply concepts to address these issues on multiple levels. The program focuses on producing transformative, innovative, and context-based solutions to complex global, societal, and environmental challenges. All the while fostering advanced leadership skills in professional sustainability research settings through collaborative partnerships.

The DSus program expects graduates to evaluate sustainability issues in various settings, design interdisciplinary sustainability frameworks, models, and systems, generate innovative solutions for complex challenges, and pursue careers as sustainability consultants, managers, researchers, and other related roles in the fields of sustainability, climate change, and corporate social responsibility.

Applicants are required to possess a Master’s degree in any field, demonstrate leadership qualities in their statement of purpose, have credible research experiences, provide a personal mission and vision statement, submit a dissertation concept proposal, and provide further proof of English language proficiency and computer and internet use. Detailed instructions and guidelines are provided on the program’s website, and it is important for applicants to submit a complete and compelling application to be considered for admission.
