27th UPOU Commencement Exercises

The University of the Philippines (UP) has approved 571 UP Open University (UPOU) students for graduation. This 16 December 2023, UPOU will hold its 27th Commencement Exercises to confer these degrees to these students. This is the last batch of UP graduates for the year 2023. 

Carrying the theme “University of the Future: Reimaginations, Reconfigurations, Realizations,” the 27th UPOU Commencement Exercises will be held at the UPOU Oblation Plaza, UPOU headquarters, Los Baños, Laguna, starting at 5:00 PM.

The number of graduates covers students who successfully completed the requirements for their programs as of 1st and 2nd Semester; 1st, 2nd and 3rd Trimester; and Mid-Year of the Academic Year 2022-2023. Out of 571 graduates, 103 are from undergraduate programs, 44 are graduate certificate programs, 233 are from graduate diploma programs, 170 are from master’s programs, and 21 are from doctoral programs. 

Of the undergraduate programs, 37 are Associate in Arts program graduates, 56 are graduates of the Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies and 10 are graduates of the Bachelor of Education Studies program. Of the 44 completers of the Graduate Certificate programs, 15 are from the Graduate Certificate in ASEAN Studies and 29 are from the Graduate Certificate in Distance Education programs. Similarly, the 233 completers of Graduate Diploma programs are from the Diploma in Computer Science program (20), Diploma in Environment and Natural Resources Management (8), Diploma in Internation Health (30), Diploma in Language and Literacy Education (54), Diploma in Land Use Planning (60), Diploma in Land Valuation and Management (14), Diploma in Mathematics Teaching (7), Diploma in Research and Development Management (19), Diploma in Social Studies Education (12), Diploma in Social Work (1), and the Diploma in Women and Development (8). At the Master’s level, graduates come from the following programs: Master of Arts in Education – Language and Literacy Education (3); Master of Arts in Nursing (11); Master of ASEAN Studies (8); Master of Development Communication (DComm); Master of Distance Education (2); Master of Environment and Natural Resources Management (26); Master of International Health (6); Master of Information Systems (22); Master of Arts in Language and Literacy Education (5); Master of Public Management (53); Master of Research and Development Management (1); Master of Social Studies Education (2); and Master of Social Work (9). The 21 graduates of doctoral programs are from the Doctor of Communication program (18) and Doctor of Philosophy in Education (3). 

Pre-graduation activities will be held on 15 December 2023 within the UPOU campus. Offices will open at 7:00 AM for the processing of documents of the candidates for graduation.  Each Faculty Office will hold its Recognition Programs in the morning. Graduates from the Faculty of Education (FEd) will convene at the Centennial Center for Digital Learning Auditorium. The Recognition Rites for the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS) graduates will be done at the Multimedia Center Building, and the program for graduates from the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) will be at the Oblation Plaza. 

Other activities for the day include the General Annual Meeting of the the UPOU Alumni Foundation, Inc. (UPOUAFI) with the new alumni of UPOU; a Cultural Program as a tribute to the graduates, and the graduation rehearsal. 

All candidates for graduation have been sent an invitation to participate. UP and UPOU officials and partners have also been invited to this event. UPOU eagerly anticipates commemorating this milestone with students, their families, and friends. The ceremony is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and commitment to academic excellence.
