UPOU Faculty Members Conduct Training Program for DOST-FNRI

A training program that aimed to equip selected Department of Science and Technology (DOST) personnel with knowledge and skills to design and evaluate suitable multimedia educational materials for their respective offices was conducted by UPOU faculty members.

Asst. Professor Luisa A. Gelisan of the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies and Mr. Lexter J. Mangubat, Instructor at the Faculty of Education gave talks and facilitated workshops on the conduct of front-end analysis (FEA), instructional design, and proposal preparation for learning materials development.

Front-end analysis is the first step in the instructional design process. It facilitates the identification of project requirements, in this case, learning materials development, based on the needs and characteristics of the target learners and the situation they are in. The conduct of FEA will help ensure that real needs/problems are addressed with appropriate solutions and acceptable alternatives. Thus, resources that shall be poured are invested efficiently and effectively.

Instructional design, on the other hand, is the systematic development of instructional specifications using learning and instructional theory to ensure the quality of instruction as well as in the development and production of learning materials in formats appropriate to the needs/situation of the learner.

A total of 60 individuals from various DOST agencies, central and regional offices, and DOST – Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) attended the training program. With the knowledge gained and skills acquired from the training, the participants are expected to design, produce, and evaluate multimedia educational materials for their respective offices based on instructional goals and learner preferences.

The training-workshop, organized by DOST-FNRI, was held on 24 to 26 April at Wyndham South Forbes, Silang, Cavite.

UPOU Advances Discussions on Semiconductor Microcredential ProgramOn 5 November 2025, the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) continued advancing its multi-sector collaboration for the proposed Semiconductor Microcredential Program. The meeting strengthened the collective work among partner institutions toward building a program that will prepare Filipino learners for internships and potential careers in Taiwan’s semiconductor industry.Building on the initial exploratory discussion held on 16 October 2025, the session focused on refining the program’s operational plans. Key discussion points included the development timeline, task assignments, partnership roles, integration with existing academic offerings, and other technical considerations needed to support a high-quality, industry-aligned microcredential. This ongoing initiative highlights the participating institutions’ commitment to co-creating innovative and globally collaborative learning opportunities through open and distance e-learning (ODeL), especially in fields that require strong international linkages and industry engagement.Attending the meeting were partners and representatives Kaohsiung Medical University and Edu-Connect Southeast Asia Association; Lai Pen Yuan Foundation; Monte Jade Science & Technology Association of Shenzhen; Technological University of the Philippines; and the University of the Philippines National College of Public Administration and Governance.#UPOU #UPVINTA #ODeL #UPSemiconductorProgram #Microcredentials ...
