Barangay Digital Transformation Hub Starts Deployment of Donated Computers in Brgy. Sto Domingo, Bay and Brgy. Maahas, Los Baños

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) has taken a significant step towards digitalizing Laguna’s local communities. On August 22, 2024, the FMDS’ Barangay Digital Transformation Hub Initiative, in partnership with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Laguna and Concentrix Philippines, began distributing donated computers to its partner barangays.

The initial recipients of these digital devices were Brgy. Sto Domingo in Bay, Laguna, and Brgy. Maahas in Los Baños, Laguna. FMDS Dean, Dr. Joane Serrano, and PESO Laguna Manager, Ms. Mary Jane T. Banasihan-Corcuera, led the turnover ceremony, which was also attended by representatives from FMDS and the UPOU Information and Communications Technology Development Office (UPOU ICTDO).

Barangay officials from both localities expressed their gratitude for the donation. Barangay Captain Hon. Jocelyn Navallo and Barangay Councilor Paul John Aquino of Sto. Domingo, along with Barangay Kagawad Eva Lasanas of Maahas, were on hand to receive the computers.

The Barangay Digital Transformation Hub aims to bridge the digital divide by providing local communities with the tools and training necessary to thrive in the digital age. The initiative seeks to empower barangays with digital literacy and skills through digital learning centers, capacity-building programs, and online courses. The Hub will also focus on building community resilience and promoting local economic development by providing access to job-seeking platforms like the Province of Laguna Employment and Information System (PLEIS).
