UPOU-FMDS MAN and D/MIH Programs Meet with STOU Schools for Possible Collaborations

On 14 November 2024, faculty members of the Master of Arts in Nursing (MAN) and Diploma in and Master of International Health (D/MIH) programs of the UP Open University Faculty of Management and Development Studies (UPOU-FMDS) met with the Deans of the Schools of Nursing and Health Science of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University to discuss areas for possible collaborations. Dr. Rita C. Ramos, Assistant Professor and Program Chair, Dr. Queenie R. Ridulme, Assistant Professor of the MAN program; and Dr. Myra D. Oruga, Associate Professor and Program Chair of the D/MIH program, together with Dr. Renukar Thongkhamrod, Dean of the School of Nursing, Dr. Premruetai Noimuenwai, former Dean of the School of Nursing, and Dr. Warangkana Chankong, Dean of the School of Health Science participated in the meeting.

Dr. Oruga began the discussion by sharing the D/MIH program’s initiatives on incorporating augmented reality tools into its instruction. She followed with a brief program overview, outlining the program’s policies, syllabus, and student demographics. Dean Chankong responded by offering opportunities for inter-program exchanges, student immersions, and collaborative lectures.

Dr. Ramos and Dr. Ridulme shared the significant outputs of their program Aruga sa Batang may Cancer (ABC) Initiative: A Web-based Pediatric Palliative Care Service Provider in the Philippines, launched in 2018 and funded by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health Research and Development. They presented the program’s learning management system and telemedicine application. Deans Thongkhamrod and Noimuenwai provided insights into the program’s relevance and how it can be mirrored in Thailand.

The Deans and faculty members further discussed how they could collaborate on innovative technologies to make online teaching and learning more inclusive and interactive and on collaborative activities to showcase their best practices and health-related innovations, in line with Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
