UPOU Faculty Members Gather for One-day F2F Workshop on Online Teaching and Learning

The UP Open University Center for Open and Digital Teaching and Learning Office (CODTL) conducted a one-day face-to-face (F2F)  workshop for faculty members titled “Workspace Online Teaching and Learning Series.” This was held on Tuesday, 28 January 2025, at the Centennial Center for Digital Learning (CCDL), UPOU Headquarters. The event brought together faculty members from UPOU’s faculty offices: Faculty of Education (FEd), Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS), and the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) to share best practices and learn from each other.

The day began with a whole-group sharing session, during which representatives from different departments presented their horizontal syllabi and course guides. This was followed by concurrent small-group discussions, during which faculty members Assistant Professor Joel L. De Castro from FEd, Assistant Professor Leo Mendel Rosario from FMDS, and Assistant Professor Margaret Jarmin Suarez from FICS presented and discussed their work on developing study guides, assessment guides, and learning activity or discussion forum guides.

The event also featured presentations and discussions on key aspects of online teaching and learning, including Tutorial System, presented by Dr. Juvy Lizette M. Gervacio; Providing Feedback Through Videoconferencing, presented by Assistant Professor Raz Dela Torre; and Use of Generative AI in Assessment, presented by Dr. Roberto B. Figueroa, Jr.

The day concluded with a reflection and synthesis session, which gave participants the opportunity to share their key takeaways and insights from the event.

This F2F event provided a valuable opportunity for faculty members to connect, share their expertise, and enhance their online teaching and learning skills. By fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among faculty, the university aims to improve the quality of online education offered to students continuously. This activity is part of CODTL’s mandate to provide academic, technical, and administrative support and services to the design and delivery of academic programs and courses for quality, open, accessible, inclusive, flexible higher and continuing education in UPOU.

A lantern that blends tradition, sustainability, and technologyThis coming Christmas season, we look back at UPOU student Sherry Mae Alcano’s “NINGNING” star lantern. Made entirely of recycled materials, her lantern honors the livelihood of Filipino communities and the traditional crafts of indigenous groups in the country. While her full work was presented through an AR platform, we are highlighting today an animated video of the lanterns, which also depicts her silent protection against the proposed phaseout of jeepneys and its impact on the livelihood of Filipinos.Watch the animated video of the lantern below.#ChristmasSeason2025 #HolidayInspiration #UPOU #DigitalArt ...
