Dr. Shari Eunice San Pablo, a faculty member at the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS) at the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), was selected to participate in the 100 images. mq. mm. exhibition held at Spazio Magma in Rome, Italy, from May 28–29. Her photograph was among 100 selected from global submissions via Instagram and printed and displayed as a single mosaic.

The project explored how images can circulate and connect people outside traditional art spaces. Inspired by the collaborative spirit of Group Material’s Arroz con mango, the exhibition treated all images equally. Each photo was labeled only with the contributor’s username and the location where it was taken, creating a shared collection of visual snapshots from different places and perspectives.

Dr. San Pablo’s participation shows how FICS faculty are involved in creative, community-based, and experimental art practices that go beyond the university.

A digital lantern that shines with hope this Christmas seasonAs we welcome the Christmas season, we look back at the digital lantern created last year by UPOU students Myne Zamora and Rhod Ezekiel DS Vallo. Their work included a short film, an Instagram filter, and the parody itself. Today, we are highlighting just the video, which reveals the lantern at the end.Inspired by stained glass windows, the lantern's vibrant colors and shifting patterns symbolize the resilience of Filipino communities. Their work was recognized at the “Culture Kaleidoscope: Celebrating Cultural Diversity in Lanterns", organized by UPOU and the President’s Committee for Culture and the Arts (PCCA).To see their work in full, you may visit: sites.google.com/up.edu.ph/kungtala/tala #ChristmasSeason2025 #HolidayInspiration #UPOU #DigitalArt ...
