The Doctor in Sustainability (DSus) Program of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), under the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS), successfully concluded its five-day Intensive Course from 09 to 13 December 2025 at UPOU Headquarters. Thirty-seven (37) applicants from diverse backgrounds completed this essential component of the DSus admission process.

Over five days, participants engaged in discussions, interactive workshops, and reflective exercises covering a wide spectrum of sustainability challenges, from environmental conservation and social equity to innovative development strategies.

The Intensive Course not only fulfills a key admission requirement but also provides a transformative learning experience that encourages critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and the development of leadership skills essential for addressing complex sustainability issues. It serves as a venue for nurturing future sustainability leaders committed to fostering just, resilient, and sustainable futures for communities and ecosystems alike.

The program extends its gratitude to the participants, supporting staff, and distinguished speakers who generously shared their expertise, including Prof. Ricardo Bagarinao, Prof. Joane V. Serrano (UPOU Chancellor), Prof. Emeritus Inocencio E. Buot, Jr., Prof. Emeritus Alexander Flor, Asst. Prof. Leo Mendel Rosario, Assoc. Prof. Aurora Lacaste (UPOU Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs), Prof. Jean Saludadez (UPOU Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration), Assoc. Prof. Finaflor Taylan (FMDS Dean), Dr. Ferdinand Maquito, and Dr. Jabez Joshua Flores.

As this year’s Intensive Course concludes, the DSus Program proudly sends forth a new cohort of changemakers who are equipped, inspired, and ready to transform knowledge into action for a sustainable and equitable world.
