The 2016 PLDT Infoteach Outreach Program was concluded with the conduct of the PLDT Home/Fibr Broadband Quiz Contest on 8 June 2017 in Event Center, Mandaluyong, Metro Manila. This program aims to provide Digital Literacy Training Program to public high school teachers and students.
The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) became a partner of this program in 2012. Since then, the program was able to cover 557 schools, 109 municipalities and trained a total of 18,566 individuals all over the country.

In her message, Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, UPOU Chancellor, emphasized that “We consider each of these individuals as seeds of social transformation which the collaborating agencies have sown in the Philippine soil and whose ripple effects can influence its surroundings and immediate environments.

For this program, UPOU designed the training curriculum which, according to Dr. Bandalaria “focuses on four major items under Digital Literacy, namely: 1) learning to use the tools responsibly; 2) responsible use of digital spaces and resources or be a responsible netizen including compliance with the relevant laws and legal provisions; 3) other 21st century skills like leadership, communication, environmental concern; and 4) use of digital skills for lifelong learning which is along the line of Education Agenda 2030 of the Sustainable Development Goals.” This program is UPOU’s ePublic service which serves as bridge for lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Now on its fourth phase, the UPOU continues to contribute to efforts in achieving national development by providing greater access to quality education for Filipinos worldwide. (Emely M. Amoloza-FICS)
