The All U.P. Academic Employees Union (AUPAEU) – UPOU Chapter joined academic sectors across the University of the Philippines system for the 2026 General Assembly (GA) held on February 26–27, 2026, at the Benito Sy Auditorium, UP Diliman, Quezon City.

Under the theme “Unyonista, Sumulong, Manindigan: Labanan ang Korapsyon, Itaguyod ang Nakabubuhay na Sahod, Trabaho at Karapatan,” the chapter highlighted its organizational growth and presented its agenda for employee welfare.

During the Ulat Balangay (Chapter Reports), Dr. Connie Habito, member of the UPOU Chapter Board of Directors, presented the chapter’s landmark achievements on behalf of President Dr. Queenie Ridulme. Membership nearly doubled in 2025, rising from 30 members in early 2025 to 58 by November, while the chapter also reported strong financial standing to support future union activities.

Beyond numbers, the UPOU Chapter emphasized reforms tailored to the unique needs of open and distance elearning faculty, underscoring its commitment to equitable treatment and welfare.

The 2026 General Assembly concluded with key decisions for the national AUPAEU body, including the election of the 2026–2029 National Executive Board and ratification of amendments to the Union’s Constitution and By-Laws to enhance sectoral representation and governance.

Major resolutions included:

  1. Economic Demands – Renewed push for the “UP Salary Fight”, including a ₱30,000 signing bonus and a ₱50,000 entry-level salary for teachers.
  2. CNA Implementation – Strict monitoring of the new Collective Negotiation Agreement, including orientations for UP administrators to ensure proper enforcement of benefits.
  3. Organizational Strengthening – Mandatory union orientations for new members and specialized workshops for the Education, Publication, and Welfare committees to protect faculty and REPS rights.

“Our growth in the UPOU Chapter reflects a growing awareness among academic employees that our welfare is tied to collective action,” the chapter leadership said. The assembly concluded with a solidarity night, reaffirming the union’s commitment to defending academic freedom and human rights.
