UPOU OUR’s Learning-Oriented University Registrar Assistant (LOURA)
The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Office of the University Registrar (OUR) has launched the Learning-Oriented University Registrar Assistant (LOURA), an AI-powered chatbot designed to provide round-the-clock assistance to applicants, students, alumni, and the general public.
The initiative responds to the growing volume of inquiries driven by UPOU’s increasing student population and expanding international reach. Accessible through the OUR website (https://registrar.upou.edu.ph/), LOURA provides instant, accurate, and consistent information on admissions, enrollment, registration, document requests, student records, and graduation procedures in a conversational format. It will soon be integrated into the Academic Information Management System (AIMS) Student Portal and the Online Application System (OAS) to further enhance support services for UPOU applicants and students.
Trained on academic policies, procedures, and frequently asked questions, LOURA offers step-by-step guidance and directs case-specific concerns to the appropriate OUR mailers.
Key features include:
- 24/7 AI-powered support for registrar-related inquiries;
- Instant responses to frequently asked questions; and
- Guidance on official forms, requirements, deadlines, and academic resources
The launch of LOURA reinforces UPOU’s commitment to digital transformation by improving access to information, enhancing service responsiveness, and supporting the efficient delivery of registrar services to a growing global community of learners. To maintain accuracy and reliability, the chatbot will be regularly monitored and updated by the OUR to ensure that its responses remain consistent with current policies, procedures, and official university information.
More than a technological innovation, LOURA reflects the Office of the University Registrar’s commitment to continuously improving service delivery and enhancing the student experience through smart, reliable, and accessible digital solutions.
