Faculty of Education partners with Department of Science and Technology and Pueblo Science in a training-workshop for high school students and public secondary school teachers.The Faculty of Education (FEd) of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) held a science camp for 48 high school students on 22-23 April 2015 and a training-workshop for 119 public high school science teachers on 29-30 April 2015, in cooperation with the Balik Scientist Program (BSP) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Pueblo Science, a charity organization based in Toronto, Canada.
DOST Balik Scientist Dr. Mayrose Salvador and Pueblo Science volunteers from Toronto, Canada; California, USA; and Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines taught high school students from Calamba and Los Baños and science teachers from 34 national high schools in Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal province science experiments in polymerization, DNA extraction and structure, ice cream making, catalysis of peroxide degradation, gel electrophoresis, fluid power, and electronics using household materials.
Dr. Salvador is a Physical Chemistry scientist based in Toronto and one of the founders of Pueblo Science. The UPOU Faculty of Education organized the training-workshop to help science teachers prepare for the K-12 program.
