In the third episode of the Revitalizing Socioecological Production Landscapes And Seascapes (SEPLS) webinar series, Ms. Kien Dang, MSc of the Social Policy Ecology Research Institute (SPERI) discussed examples in Vietnam about groundworks in the restoration of its local native seeds, seedlings, and trees.SEPLS. The webinar was held on 24 May 2022.

Ms. Dang shared the different challenges of native landscape restorations such as poverty-driven agriculture that caused forest destruction and soil erosion due to skinned landscapes. To address the growing number of challenges, Ms. Dang discussed the Commerce, Energy, NASA, Defense Information Managers Group (CENDI) Key Strategic Actions for 2015-2025-2050. These are to 1) secure access to land and forest rights under collective titles to marginalized communities; 2) restore land and forests ecosystem through small initiatives directly to small communities and holders; and 3) document and promote agroecology models, rainforestation farming models for sustainable land and forest and livelihood sovereignty.

As a result, the consistent and persistent efforts from the people involved in the restoration journey have created an impactful movement that benefited forests and ecology in Vietnam.

The Revitalizing Socioecological Production Landscapes and Seascapes (SEPLS) is a webinar series activity of Project 1 of the Emerging Interdisciplinary Research (EIDR), Building Climate Smart Communities (bSMART) Program of the University of the Philippines (UP) System, implemented by UPOU in partnership with UP Los Baños (UPLB).
