UPOU Chancellor Speaks at Pan-Commonwealth Training Programme on Women and Leadership

Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), served as one of the speakers in the 4th Pan Commonwealth Women Leaders: Shaping the Future for a Sustainable World. The three-day training programme was held on 1-3 August 2022 at Wawasan Open University City Campus, and Parkroyal Resort in Penang, Malaysia. The event focused on three themes: women and leadership; educational technology; and climate change

The first day of the programme was designed to focus on the first theme: “leadership”. Chancellor Bandalaria talked about women building networks in her presentation titled, “How can women leaders build a Powerful Network?”.

The second day of the programme focused on the theme “technology”. Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS) faculty member and Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies (BAMS) Program Chair, Dr. Emely Amoloza, also participated as a panelist in two of the panel discussions, “How can I champion change to empower women in ICT?” and “What are the implications of the new technologies and social media for my leadership path?”

The fourth offering of the Pan-Commonwealth Training Programme on Women and Leadership aimed to foster conversations around transformational leadership. Fifteen countries covered under four regions of the Commonwealth participated in the programme. The event also aimed to enhance the capacity of women as advocates for change, advance the women-as-leaders agenda, and serve as an advocate for gender mainstreaming.
