False information has increased exponentially on various social media platforms especially with the upcoming national election on 9 May 2022. For many Filipinos, social media has become their primary source of news. The term of the incumbent Deans of the University of the Philippines Open University Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS) and Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) are soon to draw to a close.  Both Dr. Alexander G. The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Chancellor, Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, has appointed Dr. Diego Silang S. Maranan as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) for the Office of Student Affairs (OSA).  Dr. Maranan holds a doctorate degree in Art and Media as a Marie Curie Fellow at the Plymouth University, United Kingdom.
