The 23rd UPOU Commencement Exercises will be held on 12 October 2019.

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) will be holding its 23rd Commencement Exercises on 12 October 2019 at its Headquarters in Los Banos, Laguna. It will carry the theme “Excellence in Equity, Equity in Excellence.”

UPOU will be conferring four hundred twenty-seven degrees to 81 undergraduate students and 346 graduate students. These are students who successfully completed the requirements for their degree programs for Academic Year 2018-2019 covering 1st, 2nd Semester, and Midyear terms, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd Trimesters. Of the undergraduate students, one will be graduating as a Magna cum laude while five will graduate as Cum laude. Nine of the graduate students are on the Chancellor’s List while 19 are on the Dean’s List.

To grace the event as the Commencement Speaker will be BGen. Eliseo M. Rio, Jr. (Ret.), Undersecretary for Operations of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). He served as Former Acting Secretary for DICT before his current post.

Prior to his service in the DICT, Usec. Rio was a former Commissioner of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and was also recognized as the “Most Outstanding Professional in the Field of Electronics and Communication for the Year 2002” by the Philippine Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). He placed fourth in the Electronics Communication Engineering Licensure Exam in 1971. He also served the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)  and held various positions in the AFP Research and Development Center (AFPRDC) and in the Communication Company, 4th Infantry Division, in Mindanao from 1968 to 1971.

The 23rd UPOU Commencement Exercises will start at 5:00 PM on 12 October 2019. Recognition programs for each UPOU Faculty Office, and other pre-graduation activities will be on 11 October 2019. (ACLlamas)
