IFSS 2025

The deadline for abstract submissions to the 3rd International Forum on Sustainable Science (IFSS 2025) has been extended to 30 July 2025.

Researchers, advocates, and practitioners in sustainability science are invited to contribute to a global conversation on transforming food systems. This year’s forum, themed “Circularity, Renewability, and Regenerative Futures for Food Systems,” will take place on 17-18 September 2025 at The Negros Residences, Bacolod City, Philippines.

IFSS 2025 will explore innovative approaches to the way food is grown, distributed, consumed, and governed—integrating indigenous knowledge, scientific research, and community-driven solutions to meet today’s complex sustainability challenges. Building on previous forums, it continues to emphasize the critical roles of multisectoral collaboration, education, entrepreneurship, and policy in food systems transformation.

Abstracts for oral or poster presentations must align with the forum’s core theme and the three pillars of sustainable development: economic viability, environmental integrity, and social equity. Submissions may fall under any of the following thematic tracks:

  • Circular Agriculture and Regenerative Farming
  • Renewable Energy in Agri-Food Systems
  • Water Circularity and Climate-Resilient Irrigation
  • Food Waste Reduction and Circular Food Business Models
  • Indigenous Knowledge and Biocultural Diversity
  • Sustainable Packaging and Postharvest Innovations
  • Nutripreneurship and Eco-Inclusive Enterprises
  • Digital Agriculture, Blockchain, and Data for Regeneration
  • Policy Co-Creation for Circular and Regenerative Systems
  • Food Sovereignty, Equity, and Justice
  • Urban-Rural Food System Integration
  • Food Systems Education and Futures Thinking
  • Local Government Innovations in Sustainable Food Systems
  • Gender and Youth Inclusion in Regenerative Economies
  • Soil and Ecosystem Regeneration for Climate Adaptation

IFSS 2025 is jointly organized by the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) and the Department of Science and Technology–Negros Island Region (DOST-NIR), with support from institutional partners including the Technological University of the Philippines, Negros Electric and Power Corporation, Central Philippines State University, the UPOU Doctor of Sustainability program, Varacco, and STI West Negros University.
