Dr. Melinda dP. Bandalaria, Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Open University, shall serve as keynote speaker in the 32nd Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) Annual Conference. The conference, with the theme “Open Education in Human Resource Development in Asia’s Period of Integration,” is hosted by the Hanoi Open University from 24 to 26 October 2018 at Melia Hotel Hanoi, Vietnam.

Dr. Bandalaria, who is also President of AAOU, shall talk on “New Technologies in Open Education.”

As President of the AAOU, Dr. Bandalaria also led the AAOU Pre-Conference Activities, held from 22 to 23 October 2018. These included the OU5 Presidents’ Meeting, Asian MOOCs Steering Committee Meeting, 33rd AAOU Annual Executive Committee Meeting, and 32nd AAOU General Body Meeting.

The UP Open University, as the current head institution, also serves as the AAOU Secretariat. The Secretariat team from UPOU is composed of Dr. Grace Javier Alfonso, former UPOU Chancellor and current AAOU Secretary-General; Asst. Prof. Myra C. Strengthen disaster readiness!DRR-CCAM Committee Meets to Strengthen University ReadinessChancellor Joane Serrano led the meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction–Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (DRR-CCAM), which focused on providing updates and facilitating the turnover to the new committee leadership. The discussion highlighted the urgency of strengthening the University’s earthquake response, including implementing new protocols, warning systems, and a comprehensive crisis communication plan. Incident Commanders were designated, and a proposal was raised to convert the former QA Office at the UPOU Main Building into a clinic to enhance medical readiness.
