Connectivity and Networks in focus on UPOU's 2nd Edu-Hack Podcast

After the success of the first Edu-Hack Podcast on 28 April 2020, the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) brings its community an equally important discussion in terms of responding to the disruption in the educational landscape amid the COVID-19 pandemic.  

UPOU will tackle connectivity and networks for the second episode of the “Edu-Hack: Navigating through a Turbulent Educational Landscape” themed “Institutional adaptation to disruptions in higher education.” This will be aired on 12 May 2020, 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM through UPOU Networks, a repository of its open educational resources. 

This episode will be moderated by Dr. Alexander G. Flor, Professor and Dean of the UPOU Faculty of Information and Communication Studies and will feature the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) Undersecretary Eliseo M. Rio, Jr., Mr. Juan Victor Hernandez, Senior Vice President for  Enterprise of PLDT and Smart from Internet Service Providers, and Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Cavite State University,  and Ms. Conchita Martha Mirabueno, President, Pambayang Kolehiyo ng Mauban, Quezon, from the Education Sector. The topic will include a discussion of the role of ICT in risks and threats of ending the community quarantine, and capacity of telecommunication companies to accommodate the surge in education online, among others.

This 2nd Edu-Hack Podcast is open to the public, especially to members of any educational institution via the UPOU Networks (https://networks.upou.edu.ph/). 

“Edu-Hack: Navigating through a Turbulent Educational Landscape,” is UPOU’s effort to discuss how Philippine universities are responding and adapting to disruptions in higher education brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Edu-Hack is also part of the #OPENFight program, UPOU’s banner program for all efforts towards coping and managing resources amidst the COVID-19 pandemic Edu-Hack is a regular 40 to 90-minute podcast live streamed twice a month.

A meaningful close to the JSFP TourThe Japanese Speakers' Forum in the Philippines (JSFP) Tour concluded on 29 October 2025 with the presentation of video outputs created by student delegates, showcasing the insights and experiences they gained throughout the four-day program. Teacher-facilitators and selected members of the Japan Foundation Manila (JFM), Kamenori Foundation, and UP Open University (UPOU) offered thoughtful questions and warm commendations for their impressive work. As part of the program, the students thoughtfully wrote and presented their sustainability pledges, reflecting on their commitment to a greener future.Earlier in the tour, participants explored various cultural and environmental landmarks. After the opening program on Day 1, Day 2 included a visit to Paete, Laguna, followed by a film screening of A Thousand Forests at the UPOU Academic Residences.
