UPOU to conduct conference for higher education institutions and vocational institutes on open and distance e-learning (ODeL) concepts and subsystems. The 4th National Conference on Open and Distance e-Learning (NCODeL2015) will be held on 5-6 November 2015 at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in Ortigas, Metro Manila. The conference is organized by the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), in cooperation with the Philippine Society for Distance Education (PSDL) and UPOU Foundation, Inc. (UPOUFI), for administrators, academics, teachers and researchers of Philippine higher education institutions (HEIs) and technical and vocational institutions (TVIs) who are engaged or interested in open learning, distance education, and technology-supported learning.
With the theme "Philippine Education Revolution through Open and Distance e-Learning," the conference is a response to Republic Act 10650, otherwise known as the Open and Distance Learning Act of 2014, which seeks to democratize access to quality tertiary education through the adoption of open learning as an education philosophy and the use of distance education to deliver quality higher and technical education programs in the country.
NCODeL2015 is a two-day event covering discussions on open and distance e-learning (ODeL) concepts and subsystems, ODeL frameworks, ODeL models, and quality assurance in ODeL. The plenary speakers include Dr. KC Li, Secretary-General of the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU); Dr. Patricia B. Arinto, Dean of the UPOU Faculty of Education; Dr. Melinda Bandalaria, Dean of the UPOU Faculty of Information and Communication Studies; and Ms. Maria Susan P. Dela Rama, Executive Director of the TESDA Certification Office and eTESDA Project Manager. The conference also features panel discussions and seminar-workshops on ODeL program design and delivery.
