As part of the celebration of the investiture of the 5th Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), the campus came alive with laughter, cheering, and nostalgic fun for an afternoon of traditional Filipino games on 30 July 2025 at the UPOU Multipurpose Hall, UPOU HQ in Los Baños, Laguna.

Dubbed “Palarong Pinoy: Sama-samang Laro, Sama-samang Sigla,” the activity was jointly organized by the Office of Public Affairs, the Human Resource Development Office, and the Office of Student Affairs. It was aimed to promote health and wellness through active play and physical engagement of the staff members, students, and alumni, cultivate stronger relationships and teamwork among faculty and staff across units as well as students and alumni, and encourage a spirit of fun, collaboration, and community through shared cultural experiences.

Chancellor Serrano opened the program by expressing her full support for the initiative, highlighting its role in promoting inclusivity.

Breaking away from the daily work routine, participants bonded over laughter and friendly competition in classic Palarong Pinoy such as patintero, sack race, batuhang bola, and the fun twist of tapakan mo ako. The day unfolded as a lively showcase of unity, energy, and the enduring joy of Filipino games.

Participants were divided into four mixed teams, making sure each group had a vibrant mix of staff and students. The energy was high, the competition friendly, and the enthusiasm contagious.

When the dust and the sweat settled, Group two (2) emerged as the overall champion.

The event wasn’t just about winning; it was a celebration of unity, wellness, and the joy of shared experiences. It served as a reminder that sometimes, the best way to build a stronger community is to play together.
