The UPOU Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS) officially and warmly welcomed new students from the Associate of Arts in Digital Design and Art (AADDA), Associate of Science in Information Technology (ASIT), and Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies (BAMS) programs for the First Trimester of Academic Year 2025-2026 during the FICS Trimestral Student Orientation. The event was held on 04 October 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, at the UPOU CCDL Auditorium and via Zoom.

The event brought together approximately 180 online participants and 32 on-site attendees. It served as an avenue for incoming students to familiarize themselves with FICS’ academic policies, available support services, and opportunities for meaningful engagement with faculty members and staff, helping set the tone for a successful trimester ahead.

In his opening remarks, FICS Dean Dr. Roberto B. Figueroa Jr. highlighted that choosing UPOU means embracing an open, flexible, and future-ready learning environment. He underscored that the FICS programs are designed to equip students with critical skills and knowledge relevant to thrive in today’s digital age. Dr. Figueroa also encouraged students to pursue collaborative projects and explore emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, immersive technologies, communication, and artscience.

A series of informative sessions followed, beginning with Asst. Prof. Margaret Jarmin-Suarez, FICS Faculty Secretary, who presented key academic policies, procedures, and available student support services, guiding new learners on how to effectively navigate their academic journey at UPOU.

Program-specific breakout sessions were then held, during which students were welcomed by their respective Program Chairs: Dr. Shari Eunice T. San Pablo (AADDA), Dr. Reinald Adrian Pugoy (ASIT), and Dr. Benigno B. Agapito Jr. (BAMS). Each session covered essential information and program-specific policies to better orient students in their chosen fields.

The orientation concluded with an open forum, giving students the opportunity to raise questions, clarify academic concerns, and connect with members of the FICS community in a supportive and inclusive environment.
