This kicks off the 3rd Infoteach Outreach Program which was held on 16-17 September 2015 at the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna. A total of 169 public high schools and 36 municipalities will participate in the training. There will also be participants from the Alternative Learning System (ALS) and the out-of-school youth (OSYs).
The program hopes to train Filipino to be globally competitive. "We want to see Filipinos who are globally competitive especially in this period of national integration," according to Dr. Melinda Bandalaria, Dean of Faculty of Information and Communication Studies of the UP Open University.
"Digital literacy is our tool to be digitally literate and to be competitive. That is why we have this training program," she said.
The training program was also graced by Mr. Mike Mejia, PLDT Area Manager of Calamba City. He praised and thanked the teachers for continuously developing new professionals. He also reminded the teachers of their responsibility to equip children with the necessary skills on information technology and to prepare them for 21st learning. He also asked the teachers to guide the children for them to have a better use of technology.
