Presentation of certificate and token to Dr. Serrano

On 28 April 2018, Dr. Joane V. Serrano, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) and Director of the Information Office and Multimedia Center, University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), gave a plenary talk on “Untangling Scientific Writing and Publishing” during the National Seminar-Writeshop on Scientific Paper & Academic Publishing hosted by the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) held at Starview Hotel, Naga City.

The three-day seminar-writeshop, conducted on 26-28 April 2018, was participated in by more than a hundred participants, mostly teachers and professors from different schools and universities nationwide. Dr. Serrano discussed the nuances of science writing, types of scientific literature, as well as the steps in technical writing. As the Managing Editor of the Journal of Nature Studies and Editor of the Journal of Management and Development Studies, she also shared some strategies on how to get published in international journals.

According to Dr. Serrano, scientific publication can greatly contribute to the country’s growth, hence she encouraged the participants to actively partake in doing research and publication. Other speakers were Dr. Mudjekeewis D. Santos, Scientist II at National Fisheries Research and Development Institute, and Dr. Eric R. Punzalan, Associate Professor at De La Salle University.
