UP Open University (UPOU) students, composed of graduate and undergraduate students, participated in the UP PahuSAYAn 2025 – Uniting the UP Community through Sports, which was held on 1-3 May 2025 at the Varsity Training Center and the College of Human Kinetics’ Ylanan Gymnasium, UP Diliman.

Centered on the theme “Fostering Excellence through University-wide Sports Engagement,” PahuSAYan 2025 highlighted the transformative role of sports in promoting both physical and mental health and well-being. The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs – Office of Student Development Services (OVPAA-OSDS) organized the event in partnership with the Office of the President and the Office of Athletics and Sports Development (OASD).

The three-day event aims to bring together and strengthen camaraderie among students from the nine Constituent Universities. It also served as a platform for UP students to showcase their skills and create meaningful connections among fellow learners across the UP community.

The UPOU basketball team was composed of students from diverse locations, demonstrating that open and distance elearning (ODeL) learners can build teamwork and actively participate in community activities. The team also reflects the university’s commitment to fostering collaboration among its students.

Joining the team are supporters from the athletes’ families, student leaders from the University Student Council and The Cursor, the official UPOU student publication, as well as staff from UPOU’s Office of Student Affairs (OSA).

The event was graced by UP President Angelo A. Jimenez, who delivered the welcome message marking the start of the program.
