University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) Associate Professor, and Director of the UPOU Information Office, Dr. Joane V. Serrano, engaged in an academic exchange and discussion with the Chinese co-authors of the book titled Case Study Book on University of the Philippines Open University in Beijing, China on 21-27 October 2018.

Case Study Book on University of the Philippines Open University is authored by Dr. Joane Serrano, Dr. Primo G. Garcia, Dean of FMDS, and Dr. Bo Yang of Beijing Open University (BJOU). It contains comprehensive information about UPOU, its history, mandate, and contributions to open and distance eLearning (ODeL) in the Philippines. The book also outlines UPOU’s organizational structure and discusses the offices that make up the campus. The book highlights the academic programs offered by UPOU’s three faculties of study and also discusses procedures related to academic and student services.

The said book is being written as part of the “Case Studies on World Open Universities” book series initiated by the Open University of China (OUC), which compiles books about the world’s universities for information about their structure, research initiatives, cooperative programs, and other data which may be used towards the development of a systematic and comprehensive study on the key factors of managing open universities. Strengthen disaster readiness!DRR-CCAM Committee Meets to Strengthen University ReadinessChancellor Joane Serrano led the meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction–Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (DRR-CCAM), which focused on providing updates and facilitating the turnover to the new committee leadership. The discussion highlighted the urgency of strengthening the University’s earthquake response, including implementing new protocols, warning systems, and a comprehensive crisis communication plan.
