UPOU-FED appoints new DMT PC

Associate Professor Lynie Bernardino-Dimasuay, a returning affiliate faculty member of the Faculty of Education (FEd), University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) is the newly designated Program Chair of the Diploma in Mathematics Teaching (DMT) graduate program effective December 1, 2020 to July 31, 2021.

Assoc. Prof. Dimasuay has a  Master of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of the Philippines Diliman(UPD) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). She has also completed the required courses for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Statistics in the same university.

Currently, she is an Associate Professor 7 at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics at UPLB. Prior to becoming Program Chair, she has been an affiliate professor at UPOU from 1997 to 2000, a Division Head of the Mathematics Division at IMSP-UPLB from 2002-2004, Director of the Learning Resource Center-UPLB from 2004-2007, and Director of the Interactive Learning Center-UPLB from 2004-2011.

Assoc. Prof. Dimasuay has authored and co-authored several scientific papers on ‘interactive learning’ and has published textbooks for College Trigonometry and General Mathematics for Senior High School students. She has presented papers in international and local conferences most recently at the 14th International Conference on eLearning for Knowledge-Based Society in Bangkok, Thailand in 2018 and at the MATHTED’s 12th Biennial International Conference on Mathematics Education in Puerto Princesa City in 2019. In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dimasuay, a member of the Philippine Council of Mathematics Teacher Educators since 2009, has extensive experience in extension work as a trainer and resource person on mathematics education.

Aside from her academic endeavors,  Assoc. Prof. Dimasuay is also active in her community. She is the head of the scholarship program of the Tubig Kanlungan Foundation, which is the advocacy turned to life by her and her group of friends from high school.  She is also an active member of the Bukas Loob sa Diyos Covenant Community (BLD) San Pablo District and member of the Lector and Commentator Ministry (LCM) of Saint Augustine Parish in Bay.

As the new DMT program chair, Assoc. Prof. Dimasuay will be in charge of handling student concerns as well as academic advising and student support. She will also be assisting the incumbent FEd Dean, Dr. Ricardo T. Bagarinao, in program-related matters such as management and revision of existing courses and development of new degree programs and courses for the Master of Science in Mathematics Education and the Doctor of Philosophy in Education major in Mathematics Education programs. Assoc. Prof. Dimasuay’s appointment will contribute to the DMT program’s pursuit of providing quality mathematics education and lifelong learning for our country’s educators and teachers.
